Laguna Del Lagarto is indeed a birdwatcher’s delight. Located north of San Jose, part of the lowlands close to the Nicaraguan border. The resort has tons of birds visiting the place all through the day. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. Bathrooms are likewise quite basic but do the job. Food which was served as a buffet given we were about 8 of us was simple but met our needs. Staff are exceptionally friendly and go out of their way to help you feel comfortable.

– Last 60 minutes to the resort you travel through a really bad road
– Decent super market is atleast 60 minutes away

Net-net, definitely recommend it if your are a avid birders and/or wildlifer who is not too bothered about the refinements and luxury.

Very isolated – about 1.5hrs from Pital on a very rough road, but absolutely worth it.
Bird life outstanding and of all the places we went in Cost Rica, here we had the best and closest views.
Comfortable rooms and helpful and friendly staff. Intermittent wifi in the restaurant area, due to remote location of lodge.

A sign on the road from Pital would have been useful somewhere along the way, to confirm that we were on the right road, but not really a problem.
